Problems for Skip Loaders with Box Scrapers

Home Problems for Skip Loaders with Box Scrapers

Used as a Dozer by pushing material from high to low spots by backing the tractor and
controlling the blade using the 3-point hitch elevation control.
• Finish grading is almost impossible with this technique because the blade is cantilevered off
of the rear of the tractor and requires the operator to know the elevation of the blade cutting
bit and the terrain the front wheels of the tractor are passing over at the same time. Move
over a hump or a hole, and the blade will respond inversely (wheel up, blade down.),
adequate for rough grading only.
• Transverse blade angle adjustments made by a hydraulic cylinder mounted in the 3-point
hitch lift linkage on one side. When the change is made up or down the opposite side reacts
in the opposite direction. This adjustment can be applied only for rough grading.
• Using the Box Scraper with this technique requires equal to or greater skill than grading with
a crawler-mounted dozer.
• When the Box Blade operates as a Dozer, by pushing backward, the material is not contained
at both ends of the blade so material is lost at each end creating a berm on both sides.
